| The Yang Style, founded by Yang Lu-chan who studied under Chen Style creator Chen Chang-hsing, is widely practiced in the United States and China. Yang Lu-chan was eventually invited to teach T’ai Chi to the Imperial Court, and became known as “Yang the Unsurpassed.”
The below Yang Style research was generously contributed by: Yang Style is the most popular style. Yang Luchan (1799-1872) created it in the early 19th century. Legend has it that Yang was so eager to learn the art, he pretended to be a beggar in starvation and fainted in the front door of the Chen's village elder. He was rescued and accepted as a servant in the Chen household. Yang woke up at night to learn the art through a crack in the wall while others practise, and soon became a highly skilled practitioner. Later he was discovered, he could have been killed for such an act those days, but the village elder was so impressed with his skill, he formally took him up as a student. Yang later developed his own style, which he taught to a great number of people, including the members of the Imperial Court. The simpler Yang style of Tai Chi has become very popular in modern times. Its movements are gentle, graceful, effective for health promotion, and easier to learn. Suitable for almost all ages and physical conditions. |
